DAY 1 RECAP
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Bethel Royals men's track and field team finished in 5
th place by scoring 78 team points at the MIAC Indoor Championships. Bethel secured their largest point totals from two 2nd place finishes in the relay events on Saturday at St. John's.
In the 4x200m relay,
Malachi Lossow,
Joel Smith,
Tyler Sealock, and
Isaac Erickson scored 8 team points as they ran 1:29.38 for 2nd place. That is the 5th best time in program history in that event. At the end of the day, Smith,
Josh Sampson, Sealock, and Erickson combined to run 3:21.34 for 2nd place in the 4x400m relay.
Less than an hour before the final relay, the freshman Sampson raced his way to a big personal best in the 200m. His time of 22.50 placed him 3rd overall and is the 3rd best time in program history.
Malachi Lossow also raced well in the 200m as he placed 5th with his season best time of 22.59.
Senior captain
Shawn Monroe moved up from his typical distance (400m) to run the three-lap 600m race. His time of 1:23.56 put him in 7th place overall.
Ezekiel Lelinga ran a personal best in the 1000m of 2:32.09 to take 5th place. His time is the 8th best time in program history. After a 3rd place finish in the weight throw on Friday,
Gabe Irons continued to score points for the Royals in the throws. Irons placed 8th in the shot put with a lifetime best toss of 45'1.75"/13.76m, the 8th best throw in program history.
The Royals continue their indoor season next week at the Wartburg Last Chance Meet on Saturday, March 7th. Several athletes will give their final attempt at qualifying for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on March 13th-14th.
