Women in 3rd Place After Day 1 of MIAC Championships

RESULTS

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Bethel Royals won two events ended day one of the MIAC Indoor Championships in 3rd place as a team with 52 points, just one point shy of 2nd place St. Olaf.

Freshman phenom Kelsie Sealock came away with the first victory of the day for the Royals. After Gustavus hurdler Birgen Nelson ran 8.81 in the prelims to lead the field, Sealock left no doubt as she was the first runner to hurdle one and continued to pull away from the field. Her time of 8.78 won the race, set a school record, and is the 6th best time in Division III this year. Teammate Corin McKinstrey ran a terrific race to take 3rd in a personal best time of 9.22.

Senior captain Delia Labatt earned her 3rd straight indoor 400m title moments after the hurdles concluded. Labatt won the cut at 200m and pulled away in the final 150m to run a season best 57.29, which set a facility record and currently ranks 5th in Division III. Labatt wasn't the only Royal to score in the 400m. Hannah Sankey took 3rd place with her time of 58.62, Britta Nordberg won her heat to take 4th in a personal best 1:00.06 and Mikayla Turek placed 8th with 1:00.63.

Grace Perrenoud had the best meet of her indoor season at just the right time. Her leap of 17'5"/5.31m was a season best by 1'4.5"/42cm and placed her 3rd overall. Jireh Babalola also had a big personal best on Friday evening. The freshman Babalola ran the 60m in 8.05 seconds to take 5th place in the 60m dash. Emily Brockberg ran a personal best in the 800m of 2:21.48, placing her 7th overall. The Distance Medley Relay team of Grace Cole (1200m), Lauren Conradi (400m), Ellie Cargill (800m), and Anna Hage (1600m) placed 7th with their combined time of 13:06.69.

The Royals will resume competition Saturday at 1:00 PM.
