COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Bethel Royals won two events ended day one of the MIAC Indoor Championships in 3
rd place as a team with 52 points, just one point shy of 2
nd place St. Olaf.
Freshman phenom
Kelsie Sealock came away with the first victory of the day for the Royals. After Gustavus hurdler Birgen Nelson ran 8.81 in the prelims to lead the field, Sealock left no doubt as she was the first runner to hurdle one and continued to pull away from the field. Her time of 8.78 won the race, set a school record, and is the 6
th best time in Division III this year. Teammate
Corin McKinstrey ran a terrific race to take 3
rd in a personal best time of 9.22.
Senior captain
Delia Labatt earned her 3
rd straight indoor 400m title moments after the hurdles concluded. Labatt won the cut at 200m and pulled away in the final 150m to run a season best 57.29, which set a facility record and currently ranks 5
th in Division III. Labatt wasn't the only Royal to score in the 400m.
Hannah Sankey took 3
rd place with her time of 58.62,
Britta Nordberg won her heat to take 4
th in a personal best 1:00.06 and
Mikayla Turek placed 8
th with 1:00.63.
Grace Perrenoud had the best meet of her indoor season at just the right time. Her leap of 17'5"/5.31m was a season best by 1'4.5"/42cm and placed her 3
rd overall.
Jireh Babalola also had a big personal best on Friday evening. The freshman Babalola ran the 60m in 8.05 seconds to take 5
th place in the 60m dash.
Emily Brockberg ran a personal best in the 800m of 2:21.48, placing her 7
th overall. The Distance Medley Relay team of
Grace Cole (1200m),
Lauren Conradi (400m),
Ellie Cargill (800m), and
Anna Hage (1600m) placed 7
th with their combined time of 13:06.69.
The Royals will resume competition Saturday at 1:00 PM.
