Men in 4th Place After Day 1 of MIAC Championships

RESULTS

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The Bethel Royals men's track and field team scored 45 points on day 1 of the MIAC Indoor Championships at St. John's. The Royals placed four individuals on the podium on Friday.

Lukas Walton got things started by placing 3rd overall in the men's heptathlon competition. Walton competed in 7 events over two days to score a combined total of 4545 points. That point total ranks him 21st on the Division III honor roll and is the 2nd best mark in program history. Gabe Irons also had a terrific performance in the field. Irons increased his lifetime best in the 35 pound weight throw from 51'10"/15.80m to 56'3.5"/17.16m by the end of the competition. His performance earned him 3rd place and now stands as the 2nd best toss in program history. 

On the track, Bethel's largest point scoring event was the 400m. Isaac Erickson, Joel Smith, and Shawn Monroe combined for a total of 19 team points for the Royals. Erickson took 2nd in 50.19, Smith was 3rd in 50.21, and Monroe was 4th in 50.22. Malachi Lossow also added to the point total by finishing with a lifetime best 7.05 in the 60m dash. He placed 5th in the event. Ezekiel Lelinga executed his race plan in the 800m run and came away with an indoor best 1:55.91 for 4th place. The Distance Medley Relay team of Andy Barnhart (1200m), Tyler Sealock (400m), Cooper Hitt (800m), and Ike Mendel (1600m) raced their way to a 4th place finish with their time of 10:31.77.

The Royals will continue competition Saturday at St. John's beginning at 1:00 PM.
