The Bethel women's soccer team clinched a 2-1 win over the Carthage College Firebirds in their final game of the weekend series in Kenosha, Wis. The Royals now move to a record of 2-0-0 with the victory.
How It Happened:
- The Royals showed up for a dominant first half with Malia Beilby lighting the lamp for the Royals just eight minutes in. Taylor Sievert ripped a shot from 25 yards out and, while the Firebirds' goalie made the initial save, the ball ricocheted off of her hands for Beilby to crash the net and knock the ball in for the first Royals' goal.
- At 38:05, the Royals extended their lead. Maya Eidenschink sent a ball sailing across the field from the right side of the attacking third, and when it bounced awkwardly off a Firebird player, Jess Oliver was there to drill the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. 2-0, Royals.
- The Firebirds finally mustered up a response in the 65th minute, closing the score by one, but they were unable to find an equalizer. Led by goalkeeper Kate Green, who made several key saves, the Bethel defense shut down many Firebird offensive opportunities, including six corner kicks in the second half alone.
What's Next:
The Royals will make the two-minute trip down to the University of Northwestern on Wednesday, Sept. 11, to claim a victory over their Snelling Avenue neighbors. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
