The Bethel women's soccer team came to a draw with their Snelling Ave. rivals, the University of Northwestern Eagles, 3-3, after 90 intense minutes of play. The tie moves the Royals to a season record of 2-0-1.
How It Happened:
- Though Bethel dominated field possession and shots on net in the first half, outshooting the Eagles 9-3, it was Northwestern who managed to get on the board first, scoring after a scuffle in the Royals' 18-yard-box at 39:29.
- But Bethel came out strong in the second half when Malia Beilby dealt a pass to Avery Littlefield, who one-timed it into the back of the Eagles' net to tie things up in the 49th minute.
- The Royals kept things hot as Hannah Kvant charged down the field just one minute later to place a beautiful cross right in front of the Eagles' goal. Jess Oliver was there and timed her strike perfectly to bury the ball for a second Royal goal.
- But UNW wouldn't go down without a fight, and they answered back with a rifle of a goal in the 79th minute.
- As the final minutes slipped away, Bethel took the lead once more as Sydney Ebner carried the ball up the field and laid it off neatly at the feet of Oliver, who once again one-timed it past the Eagles' keeper at 84:47.
- Still, the Eagles answered back in the final seconds of the game, sniping one past BU goalkeeper Kate Green at 88:15, and though Bethel fought to find the game-winning goal, the time ran out, and the game ended in a draw.
