A late goal from
Malia Beilby pushed the Bethel women's soccer team to a 1-1 draw with the Concordia College Cobbers. The tie moves the team to a record of 6-5-4 overall and 2-4-3 in MIAC play.
How It Happened:
- The first half saw a deadlock between the evenly-matched Royals and Cobbers as neither team could snag an advantage on the scoreboard. Bethel narrowly outshot the Cobbers by a margin of 7-5 but couldn't find the back of the net.
- It was the Cobbers who struck first, scoring in the 67th minute after BU goalkeeper Kate Green blocked a corner kick and a Cobber player closed on the bouncing rebound.
- Still, the Royals buckled down, refusing to give up the game, still outshooting the Cobbers, and their efforts paid off. At 86:35, Malia Beilby received the ball off a throw-in, turned with it towards the net, and rifled a shot off from the 18-yard-box line. The Cobber goalkeeper dove but couldn't make contact with the ball before it slammed into the back of the net, tying up the game.
- The seconds drained away as the teams both fought to find the game-winning goal, but when neither could succeed, the game ended in a draw.
What's Next:
The Royals return to Ona Orth Athletic Complex this Saturday, Oct. 26, for a 1 p.m. matchup against the Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties in what will be their second-to-last game of regular season.
