Volleyball Wins Two in Day One of Bethel Tournament

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -
The Bethel volleyball team swept both of their opponents on Friday as they hosted day one of the Bethel Tournament. The Royals defeated Buena Vista and Martin Luther in straight sets 3-0.

Against Buena Vista the Bethel women had a full team effort in blocks and digs combining for 10 and 30 respectively. Kate Smith (Sr., Arden Hills, Minn.) lead the team with 38 assists. Leading the Bethel offense was a trio of Nicole Wriedt (Sr., Pewaukee, Wis.), Caitie Helle (Jr., Onamia, Minn.), and Amy Werner (Three Lakes, Wis.) who each had more than 10 kills.

In the second matchup of the day the Royals faced Martin Luther and it was more of the same. Helle and Werner each had 12 kills, Kate Smith had 36 assists, and Valerie Smith (Jr., Alexandria, Minn.) had nine digs.

The Bethel women will continue competition in day two of their tournament as they take on UW River Falls and Northland College. Competition against the Falcon's is scheduled to begin at noon.
