ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University volleyball team capped off a perfect weekend at the BU Invitational with a pair of straight-set victories Saturday inside the Robertson Center. The Royals swept Carroll University in the morning before closing tournament play with a sweep of Bethany Lutheran College.

Bethel finished the two-day tournament 4-0 and improved to 10-3 overall on the season.

Bethel 3, Carroll 0

The Royals opened Saturday with a tightly contested first set against Carroll. Bethel edged the Pioneers, 28-26, before taking control over the final two frames.

Bethel hit .367 in the second set while holding Carroll to a negative hitting percentage, cruising to a 25-14 victory. The Royals carried that momentum into the third, limiting the Pioneers to a .000 hitting percentage in a 25-18 win to complete the sweep.

Sara Scherber led the Bethel attack with 12 kills, while Peyton Howie added 11. The Royals finished with 45 kills and hit .274 as a team compared to Carroll's .083 clip.

Ellie Van Namen dished out 19 assists, while Sophia Rubio added 16. Grace Therrien led the defensive effort with 14 digs, followed by Hannah Penke with 11 and Rubio with 10. Howie and Chiara Houser each recorded three blocks.

Bethel 3, Bethany Lutheran 0

Bethel continued its strong play in the tournament finale, sweeping Bethany Lutheran 25-22, 25-15, 25-13.

After battling to a 25-22 opening-set victory, the Royals' offense took off in the second. Bethel recorded 19 kills with just three errors, hitting .471 in a dominant 25-15 win.

The Royals closed out the tournament with a 25-13 victory in the third, finishing the match with a .320 hitting percentage while holding Bethany Lutheran to .088.

Howie led Bethel with 12 kills and added five service aces. Grace Bathurst finished with 10 kills, while Scherber added nine.

Bethel also controlled the net with an 11-3 advantage in blocks. Bathurst led the Royals with five, while Scherber and Houser each added four. Van Namen totaled 24 assists, and Therrien once again led the back row with 14 digs.

The Royals finished their home-opening weekend 4-0, winning 12 of 14 sets across the BU Invitational. After going five sets with Carleton in Friday's opener, Bethel rattled off three consecutive sweeps over UW-Stevens Point, Carroll and Bethany Lutheran to improve to 10-3 overall.
