Royals roll past Scots 64-48

The Royals scored the first two points in the game and continued to lead the rest of the time as they handily defeated the Macalester Scots 64-48. Before tonight's match up, the two teams were both sitting tied for seventh place in the standings. With the win the Royals boosted their record to 7-7, which places them just above the Scots, who now sit at 6-8 in the MIAC.

Bethel was able to pull away from Macalester right away, leading by 15 by the 10 minute mark of the first half and doubling the Scots score, leading 28-14 by the end of the first half of the game. The Royals did not lose any steam in the second half continuing to break away from their opponent.  Leading by as much as 22 in the second half of the game, the Royals held the Scots at least 14 points away from them for 30 of the game's 40 minutes.

Bethel's scoring was spread out mainly between the starters, but it was a player off the bench that led the Royals in points. Lakita Davis (Sr., Brooklyn Center, Minn.) scored a season high of 15 points along with four rebounds and three assists. Following Davis in points was breakout point guard Taylor Sheley (Fr., Backus, Minn.) who had 12 points and seven rebounds in the game. Other players with double-digit points in the game were Autumn Beasley (Fr., Medina, Minn.) with 11, and Annegret Nautsch (Sr., Everett, Wash.) with 10 points and eight rebounds. Starter Kristen Wolters  (Jr., St. Cloud, Minn.) made her mark on the court as well leading the team in rebounds with nine and adding eights points to the cause.

The Macalester Scots were lead in points by Ann Baltzer and Jessica Rene who had 10 and nine points, respectively.

As a team, the Royals shot 41 percent from the field, 43 percent from outside the arc, and 73 percent from the free throw line, making 11 out of 15 free throws on the night.

With another victory under the belt the Royals are 8-9 overall and the loss gives the Scots a 8-9 record overall as well. The Royals now get set to play the Concordia Cobbers, which is scheduled to take place Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. on their home court in the Robertson Center.
