MONTICELLO, Minn. – The Bethel University men's golf team wrapped up its season with a third-place finish at the SJU Spring Invitational. The Royals shot a 592 (+20) in the 36-hole event, finishing 10 strokes ahead of Carleton. Winning the event was Gustavus (574) while SJU placed second (576).
The Royals shot a 304 in the opening round before taking off 16 strokes in round two with a 288, the third-lowest round this season. BU tallied 30 birdies on the weekend, the second most by any team.
Will Karkoc led the team with a fourth-place finish, his second-best finish of the year. Shooting a career-best 143 (E), he was second in the field in par-five scoring, where he was five under. He notched eight birdies on the weekend, four of which came in each round. He shot a two-under-par 69 in the final round after shooting a two-over 74 on Saturday.
Jesse Balc shot a season-best 147 (+4) to finish tied for 12. He shot 74 on day one and a 73 on day two, carding six birdies on the weekend.
