RESULTS | Day 1 Recap
ROCHESTER, NY - The Bethel Royals took home 7 All-American awards and earned 6th place as a team from the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday evening.
Jayson Ekiyor started off the day strong as he out-leaned Rowan's Marquise Young for 3rd place. Ekiyor's time of 7.83 seconds is the 7th fastest in Division III history.
Landen Liu earned his 6th career All-American award as he took 3rd place in the 60m dash. Liu ran 6.69 seconds - which would have broken the previous meet record.
Grant Nelson came from behind to win his heat of the 400m dash. Nelson's time of 47.66 placed him 4th overall, as 3 athletes from heat 2 beat his time.
The top placing from the meet came from the 4x400m relay team of Jacob Parent, Josh Thomsen, Victor Lelinga, and Nelson, as they earned national runner-up. Nelson received the baton 9 meters behind SUNY Cortland, but closed the gap by running the fastest split at NCAA Division III Indoor Championship in the past 20 years at 46.19 seconds. Cortland won the race in 3:12.59, while the Royals ran 3:12.89. Bethel edged out UW-LaCrosse from heat 1 by a mere 0.008 seconds.
The Royals wrapped up the season with a 6th place team finish as they tallied 25 team points. Bethel will compete again in the outdoor season, starting with the Hamline Invite on Saturday, April 6th.
