NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Bethel Royals captured their 2nd consecutive MIAC Indoor Track & Field title on Saturday, scoring 164 points, winning over St. John's in 2nd with 143 points, and St. Olaf in 3rd with 107 points. The Royals won 4 events on Saturday, bringing their total event titles to 7 over the championship weekend.
Jacob Parent set his 2nd championship record of the weekend, as he won the 200m dash in 21.80. Parent set the championship record in the 400m on Friday night. Sam Raitz took 7th place in 22.97 and Landen Liu took 8th place in 23.04.
Victor Lelinga won the 600m run as he dashed away from the field over the final 200m, winning in 1:20.57. Grant Nelson battled down the final stretch to take 2nd place in 1:22.11 to beat 3rd place by 0.06 seconds. Taaron Rudizits ran a personal best 1:22.90 to take 6th place.
The 4x200m relay team of Cameron McConnell, David Myres, Josh Thomsen, and Sam Raitz won the race in a stellar time of 1:28.80, winning by more than a full second. That is the 2nd fastest time in program history, just 0.08 behind the record set in 2017.Â
The 4x400m relay team of Thomsen, Josh Sampson, Nelson, and Parent won the race handily in 3:22.97, earning 10 team points for Bethel.Â
Nick Bovitz earned 4th place in the triple jump with a lifetime best 13.35m / 43'9.75".
Evan Larsen took 5th place in the shot put with his mark of 14.87m / 48'9.5" and Adam Hokanson took 6th with a throw of 14.66m / 48'1.25".
The Royals will compete next weekend at the UW-LaCrosse Qualifier as a final opportunity to earn a qualifying mark for the Division III National Championships on March 8-9 in Virginia Beach.
