Men's Track 1st After Day 2 of MIAC Championships

RESULTS | Day 1 Recap

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Bethel Royals are in 1st place after day 2 of the MIAC Championships with 97 team points. St. John's is in 2nd place with 77 points, and St. Olaf is 3rd with 69 points.

The Royals scored big in the 60 meter hurdles, totalling 30 points in the event and sweeping the top 4 spots. After setting the MIAC Championship record of 7.96 seconds in the prelims, Jayson Ekiyor won the finals in 8.04. Josh Sampson closed hard in 2nd place in a personal best 8.07 seconds. David Myres was 3rd in 8.23 seconds, Josh Thomsen was 4th in 8.38 seconds, and Blake Viesselman was 8th in 8.86 seconds. 

Jacob Parent and Grant Nelson gave Bethel a 1-2 finish in the 400m dash. Parent won the head-to-head race in a MIAC Championship record of 48.58. Nelson was 2nd in 48.85. Taaron Rudzitis ran an indoor personal best of 51.10 to take 6th place, and Tony Haack was 8th in 51.42.

Adam Hokanson earned his 2nd career MIAC title, this time taking the victory in the weight throw. Hokanson threw a personal best 17.41m / 57'1.5" and is now ranked 38th in Division III. Evan Larsen took 4th place with a throw of 15.93m / 52'3.25".

Bethel also captured two runner-up finishes on Friday. Cameron McConnell ran a personal best 6.97 seconds in the 60m dash to take 2nd place. Sam Gardeen took 2nd place in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.55m / 14'11". Josh Graske added a point for the Royals by clearing 4.20m / 13'9.25" and placing 8th in the pole vault. Godsword Simon was 5th in the 60m dash in 7.10.

Victor Lelinga closed hard in the 800m to take 5th place in a time of 1:57.05, just 0.002 behind 4th place. 

Simon Swenson had a season best jump of 6.31m / 20'8.5" to take 7th in the long jump.

At the end of the day, the Distance Medley Relay team of Clark Nelson, Caleb Ketterling, Drew Schmitz, and Eli Berg took 6th place with their time of 10:39.31.

The Championships will conclude on Saturday at St. Olaf with the field events starting at 11:00AM and the running events starting at 1:00PM.
