EDINA, Minn. – The No. 16th-ranked Bethel University men's golf team tied for a second-place finish at the MIAC Championships carding a 28-over-par 892 in the 54-hole event played at Braemar Golf Course in Edina. The Royals tied with Saint John's while Carleton won the title carding an 874 (+10) Concordia finished fourth with an 899.
Bethel shot a 297 in the opening round before battling tough winds on Saturday for a 305. They closed out the weekend with a two-over-par 290 in Monday's final round.
Will Karkoc and
Jack Wellen led the team with a fifth and sixth-place finish respectively putting them on the All-Championship Team and earning All-MIAC accolades which will be officially announced in the spring.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Bethel led the field in birdies with 56 and led the field in par-five scoring where they were 28-under-par for the championship.

Will Karkoc matched his best career finish at the MIAC Championship with a fifth-place finish carding a 222. For the tournament, he led the field with 14 birdies, six of which came on the final 11 holes during the final round. He opened with a 75 on Saturday before shooting a one-over-par 73 in round two. He closed it out with a two-over-par 74 on Monday with three birdies on par fives.

Jack Wellen had his best MIAC finish, competing in the event for the third time in his career. Tying for third he shot a 223 highlighted by a three-under-par 69 in Monday's final round. After going 76-78 in the first two rounds, he led the Royals on Monday with a five-under-par 31 on the front nine thanks to five birdies before closing out with a two-over-par 38 on the back nine.
• Competing in his first MIAC Championship,
Jacob Ferrin tied for 11th with a 225. He started the championship strong with an even 72 in Saturday's opening round having carded six birdies. He closed it out with a 78 in round two and 75 in round three.

Jacob Hall finished tied for 16th carding a 226 in the event. After shooting a 78 in round one and 78 in round two, he closed things out strong with an ever-par 72. The highlight on Monday was chipping in for eagle on the par-five 16.

Jesse Balc rounded out the Royals tying for 23rd with a 231. He notched a 74 in round one and 75 in round three while shooting an 85 in round two.
