DULUTH, Minn. — The Bethel University volleyball team moved its conference record to 6-0 with a four set victory over the College of Saint Scholastica Wednesday night. The Royals won the first set by a score of 25-18, dropping the second set 25-13, before winning the final two sets by identical scores of 25-18. With the win the Royals improved their overall record to 16-4 on the year.
Set one:
The Royals grabbed an early 4-2 advantage in the opening set on a kill from
Peyton Howie, before extending the lead to 7-4 on a
Grace Solberg kill. The score remained tight from there, but an 8-2 Royals run and a kill courtesy of
Grace Solberg gave Bethel a 19-12 lead.
Sophie Jacques came up with a kill to move the Royals to set point and an
Eleanor Pelzel kill ended it with Bethel taking set one 25-18.
Set two:
A key kill from
Ellie Van Namen tied the second set at four, before the Saints later took an 8-6 lead. A
Sophie Jacques kill then tied the set at eight, but an 8-0 Scholastica run put the Royals down 17-9. With the Saints going on to take the set 25-13.
Set three:
Bethel stormed back to open set three, taking a 7-2 lead on a pair of
Grace Solberg kills.
Peyton Howie later extended the Royals lead to five with a kill, before a 4-1 run and a
Grace Solberg kill opened up a 18-11 BU advantage. Another
Grace Solberg kill moved the Royals to set point, a Saints attack error gave Bethel the third set 25-18.
Set four:
A 7-1 run and a
Peyton Howie ace gave the Royals a 9-4 lead to open the fourth set. The Saints later tied the set at 11, but
Ellie Van Namen came up with a kill to put the Royals up by one. A 6-1 run and a
Sophie Jacques kill, put the Royals ahead 21-15, with Bethel closing out the set 25-18 on a
Hannah Penke kill, Taking the match 3-1.
Grace Solberg tallied 15 kills in the win over the Saints, while
Peyton Howie came up with 11 kills of her own.
Brenna Stark collected 31 assists, and
Grace Therrien had another excellent defensive performance with 19 digs.

The Royals head home to Arden Hills for an out of conference matchup with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Friday night Oct. 18 in the Robertson Center Gym. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
