ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — The Bethel University volleyball suffered its first loss in the month of October in a 3-0 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Royals lost in three sets to the Blugolds by scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-22, falling to 16-5 on the year.
Set one:
Bethel fell behind 8-5 to begin the opening set, but battled back pulling to within two on a kill from
Peyton Howie.
Sophie Jacques came up with a pair of key kills to cut the deficit to 11-8, but a 7-2 Blugold run put the Royals down 18-11. Bethel went on to drop the set by a score of 25-15.
Set two:
A
Grace Solberg kill cut the Blugold lead to 5-4 early in the second set, but a 7-1 Eau Claire run put the Royals behind 13-6.
Brenna Stark came up with a kill of her own to make it a 13-7 game. It was too much for Bethel to overcome as they dropped set two 25-10
Set three:
The Royals battled back in set three tying the game at six on an
Ellie Van Namen kill. Opening up a 5-1 Bethel run capped off with a
Peyton Howie kill to take a 10-8 lead. Down 17-15,
Eleanor Pelzel came up with back-to-back kills to tie the set at 17.
Peyton Howie put the Royals ahead 22-21 late, but the Blugolds went on a 4-0 run late to take the set 25-22 and the game 3-0.
Peyton Howie led the way for the Royals with 7 kills, and
Brenna Stark tallied 15 assists and 9 digs on the night.
Grace Therrien collected 16 digs of her own.
