LESUEUR, Minn. – In its final tune up before the MIAC Championship, the Bethel University men's golf team took first place at the Twin Cities Classic. Bethel carded an 869 (295-283-291) for the event, three strokes off the program record, highlighted by matching a program-low for the second time this year at 283 in the second round. The Royals bested No. 11th-ranked Saint John's by nine strokes. Bethel's "B" squad placed fourth with an 889.
Conor Schubring earned medalist honors placing in a tie for first.
Jack Wellen led the "B" squad finishing in a tie for third as he climbed the leaderboard as the weekend went on.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Schubring carded a 214 on the weekend opening up with a 75 in round one. Sunday he matched a career- and program-low round five under 67. Four birdies on the front nine had him a three under before going two under on the back stretch. In the final round he was two under at the turn before six bogeys on the back nine fished him at two-over 72.
• Wellen carded a career-best 215 thanks to a two-under 68, a career-best, in the final round. He tallied his second career round of shooting under par in impressive fashion with four birdies. He shot a 74 in the opening round with five birdies but a seven on the par-four 7th green hurt a bit on the front nine. He shot a 73 in round two.

Jacob Hall notched his second career top-five finish placing in a tie for third. His career-best 215 started by matching a career-low one-under-par 69 in the opening round. He capped it out with a 72 on Sunday and 74 on Monday. Hall shot was six under for the weekend in par-five scoring.

David Morton notched a top-10 finish carding a 219 shooting a three-over-par 73 in all rounds.

Bethel enters postseason golf for the fall season with the MIAC Championships taking place Saturday, Sept. 30 through Monday Oct. 2. at Rush Creek Golf Course in Maple Grove. The Royals' first golfer will tee off at 11:50 a.m. on Saturday.
