SAUK CENTRE, Minn. – The Bethel University men's golf team notched a fourth-place finish in the 16-team SJU Winter Classic carding a 301 in the 18-hole event. The Royals led the field in par four scoring where they were +15 for the day while carding a field second-best 49 pars.
Bethel's "B" team placed eighth with a 319.
For the third straight weekend,
Conor Schubring had BU's top finish notching his best finish of the spring with a one-over 73 that placed him in a tie for sixth. After going one-over on the front nine, Schubring got a big eagle on the par five 12th green at 500 yards. He finshed the back nine with an even 36.
Jack Wellen placed in a tie for 11th after a quick start where he birdied two of his first four holes. His two-over 74 matches a collegiate low.
David Morton and
Jacob Hall each tied for 18th with a five-over 77. Morton was one over on the front nine before carding an eagle on the par-five 12th hole. An eight on the final hole forced him to go four-over on the back nine. Hall notched three birdies on the day where he was two over on the front and three over on the back.
Will Karkoc rounded out BU's top five finishing in a tie for 42nd with an 81.
Noah Frobom led Bethel's "B" squad tying for sixth place matching a career-low 73. Frobom carded five birdies on the day, four of which came on the front nine where he was four under.
The Royals return to the links tomorrow for the SJU Spring Invitational. The Royals "B" squad tees off at 9:20 a.m. from the No. 1 tee box for the 18-hole event while the "A" squad does so at 10:10 a.m. from No. 10.
