WAYZATA, Minn. – In its final prep before the MIAC Championships, the Bethel University men's golf team notched a T-10th place finishing, out of 21 teams, at the 54-hole Twin Cities Classic hosted by Gustavus Adolphus. Bethel was two strokes off a ninth-place finish and four strokes off of eighth carding a 930 (307-303-320).
Bethel turns its attention to the three-day MIAC Championships set for Oct. 2-4 at Bunker Hills Golf Course.
Freshman
Jacob Hall was the Royals top finisher placing in a tie for 21st with a 230 in his second-ever 54-hole collegiate tournament. Hall shot a 76 in the opening round at The Links at Northfork before coming up a stroke short of his collegiate low round with a one-over 73 in round two. Hall carded four birdies and an eagle on the par-five 500-yard fifth hole at Elk River. In the final day bogeys down the stretch gave him an 81.
Freshman
Ian Stelter, competing as the No. 1 golfer on BU's "B" squad gave himself a T26th place finish matching a career-best 237. Stelter started the weekend with a 78 before earning a collegiate low-round 76 thanks to three birdies. On the final day he shot a 77 going three-over on the front nine and two-over on the back nine.
Freshman
Will Karkoc tallied a T40th finish with a 233. Karkoc was consistent all week shooting a 77-78-78. He finished out the weekend strong tapping in for par on his final seven holes.
Junior
Zach Owen's 54-hole career-best 234 placed him in a tie for 44th. He bested his 77 in the opening round with a 75 on day two that saw him card three birdies and an eagle on the par-four 295-yard 13. Owen finished with a 72 on his final day.
Veteran
Noah Frobom finished tied for 49th with a 235 (77-77-81) while
Jack Wellen finished in a tie for 78 with a 243 (79-84-80) rounding out Bethel's top squad.
