RESULTS
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - After day one of the Division III Elite Indoor Championships, the Royals came away with three school records and two individual titles. In absence of the NCAA indoor national championships, many of the best student-athletes descended on Wartburg College, including several athletes from Bethel. The Royals put up many terrific performances on day 1.
SCHOOL RECORDS
For the second consecutive meet, Gabe Irons bettered the 35 lbs weight throw record. Irons won the event convincingly with his best toss of 18.38m / 60'3.5". He was 1.21 meters ahead of second place and improved his school record by 3 cm.Â
Grace Perrenoud surpassed the school record in the triple jump on 3 of her 6 jumps on Friday. Her best effort on the day was 11.38m / 37'4". That mark is her lifetime best, and placed her 4th in an incredibly close competition in which she was just 8 cm behind the winner.Â
Kelsie Sealock tore out of the blocks and continued to put distance on the field with each hurdle clearance in the 60m hurdles. She ran a lifetime best, school record, and national leading mark of 8.67 seconds in her prelims race. She will be the top seed going into the finals on Saturday.
EVENT CHAMPIONS
After Gabe Irons locked up Bethel's first event title, Lukas Walton stood on top of the podium when the dust settled in the men's pentathlon. Walton scored 3511 points in his 5 events, the 2nd best score in school history. Here is the breakdown of his pentathlon:
- 60H - 8.62 (Personal Record)
- LJ - 6.03m / 19'9.5" (Season Best)
- SP - 11.02m / 36'1.75" (Personal Record)
- HJ - 1.86m / 6'1.25" (Personal Record)
- 1000m - 2:41.20 (Season Best)
ALL-TIME MARKS
The Royals had multiple athletes that qualified for the 400m. Joel Smith was the top finisher for Bethel coming in 2nd place after winning his heat in a sizzling time of 48.94. That is the 3rd best mark in program history. Freshman Jacob Parent ran a personal best 49.62 for 6th place overall. That time puts him number 6 on Bethel's all-time list.Â
In the women's 400m, the Royals had three different runners score points. Senior captain Hannah Sankey took 3rd overall with her time of 58.68. Sophomores Mikayla Turek (4th) and Britta Nordberg (7th) both ran personal bests of 58.82 and 59.39, respectively.Â
The personal bests continued in the hurdle races. Josh Sampson qualified for the finals and will have the preferred lane as he clocked the fastest prelim time of 8.16 seconds. That time is the 2nd fastest time in program history.Â
Along with Sealock's blazing prelim, AnnaGrace Nelson ran a terrific race to earn a personal best of 9.45 seconds to place 9th overall. The freshman Nelson also had a lifetime best performance in the triple jump of 10.95m / 35'11" to place 8th.Â
Pole vaulters Sadie Koelz and Jessica Lilland earned 11 team points towards the Royals total. Koelz cleared 3.23m / 10'7" for 3rd place, and Lilland took 4th with 3.
Grace Scott continued to be consistent in the 60m dash. Scott ran 8.02 seconds, just 0.01 off her lifetime best from the previous meet. She barely missed out on finals by a mere 0.005 second.Â
