RESULTS
WAVERLY, Iowa - The Bethel Royals had one last chance to improve upon their marks this indoor season on Friday and Saturday at Wartburg College. The meet was highlighted by a stellar performance in the 4x400m relay.
Joel Smith opened up against the best quarter-milers in Division III and ran 49.41 out of the blocks.
Isaac Erickson took the baton around the track in 49.26 on his leg.
Josh Sampson sprinted home the third leg of the race for Bethel with his split of 49.21.
Shawn Monroe anchored the Royals in 48.98 for a total time of 3:16.86. That is the 5th best time in Division III this year as Bethel took 3rd in the race on Saturday evening.
Sophomore
Lukas Walton competed in the heptathlon for the second week in a row. His point total of 4640 set a new personal record, ranks 31st in Division III, and placed 3rd at the meet. Here is how his events broke down:
- 60m - 7.50 (713 pts)
- Long Jump - 5.97m / 19'7" (580 pts)
- Shot Put - 10.63m / 34'5.5" (524 pts)
- High Jump - 1.80m / 5'10.75" (627 pts)
- 60m Hurdles - 8.86 (777 pts)
- Pole Vault - 12'3.5" (549 pts)
- 1000m - 2:39.66 (877 pts)
Ezekiel Lelinga race the mile for the first time this year and executed his race plan to perfection. His time of 4:18.05 was a new personal record and is the 6th best time in program history.
Gabe Irons placed 9th in the weight throw, as he tossed the 35 pound implement 16.26m / 53'4.25". Freshman
Josh Sampson earned a spot in the finals of the 60m hurdles where he ran 8.26 for 6th place. Grace Perrenound competed in the long jump and leaped to a mark of 5.26m / 17'3.25".
The Royals will now look forward to the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships. The meet will be held next week, March 13-14 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Bethel will qualify both the men's and women's 4x400m relay teams,
Kelsie Sealock in the 60m hurdles, and
Delia Labatt in the 400m.
