RESULTS
After a canceled meet last weekend, the Bethel Royals finally were able to hit the track and compete for the first time in 2020. "We had some really strong performances, espcially for this being our season opener," said Head Coach
Andrew Rock. The Royals were led by senior captain
Shawn Monroe's victory in the 600m. Monroe led wire-to-wire as he ran a personal best 1:23.53. Teammate Cooper Hitt took 4th place in the same event by running 1:24.78.
The Royals also came away with a win in the 4x400m relay. The quartet of
Tyler Sealock,
Joel Smith,
Brandon Loverude, and
Lukas Walton won the race convincingly with their time of 3:27.09. That time ranks 16th on the Division III honor roll. Freshman
Josh Sampson and sophomore
Joel Smith, who were teammates at Mounds View High School - are now wreaking havoc on the MIAC hurdles. Sampson took 2nd place with a time of 8.54, just out-leaning Smith who took 3rd in 8.58. In the prelims, Sampson ran 8.47, a time that ranks him 32nd in Division III. Junior
Malachi Lossow opened his season with a personal best in the 60m. His time of 7.07 earned him 2nd place and ranks him 46th in Division III. Lossow came back to take 2nd in the 200m, running 22.89.
Isaac Erickson closed hard in the 200m and ran a terrific time of 22.97 for 3rd place.
Ezekiel Lelinga led the Royals in the distance events. Lelinga ran 2:34.41 in the 1000m to earn 2nd place behind the top miler in Division III. In the field events,
Lukas Walton earned 3rd place in the high jump with a clearance of 1.80m (5'10.75"). Freshman
Jake Twogood had an enormous personal best in the pole vault by jumping 4.15m (13'7.25") and taking 4th place. Multi-sport athlete
Gabe Irons (football) opened his season with a personal best in the weight throw. His best toss of 15.13m (49'7.75") capped off a day of consistent throwing.
"I thought this was a great start to our competitive season," said Head Coach
Andrew Rock. "We're excited to use the momentum from this meet into our home meet next weekend." The Royals will host their annual Gene Gladder Classic on Saturday, February 1st.
