LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Bethel Royals had six student-athletes race the UW-La Crosse in the Final Qualifier Meet on Thursday, April 16th. This was the final day to get a qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet next weekend.
Senior
Evan Hatton ran his final race in a Bethel uniform in the men's 800m. Hatton led the race through the first 500m, bringing the talented field through the halfway mark in 55.1 seconds. For his efforts, he was rewarded with a season best time of 1:53.93 and 8th place overall.
The Royals had two short sprinters compete as well.
Malachi Lossow ran both the 100m and the 200m races. Lossow ran his second best time of the year in the 100m at 11.07, putting him in 12th place. He took 6th in the 200m with a time of 22.21. Teammate
Brandon Loverude set a lifetime best in the 200m, running 22.75 and taking 12th place in the event.
Corin McKinstrey and
Joel Smith each ran in their respecitve 400m hurdle race. McKinstrey executed a new race strategy and was neck-and-neck with the leaders through hurdle number 8. She ended up in 3rd place with a time of 1:03.77.
Joel Smith closed his season with a 3rd place finish in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 54.53.
Sadie Koelz earned 11th place in the women's pole vault with a clearance of 3.28m (10'9").
The Royals will conclude their season at the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio on May 23-35. The top 20 men and top 22 women in the individual events will qualify, as well as the top 16 relays for each gender. Here are Bethel's entries for the meet:
