Track and Field Sends 11 to NCAA Outdoor Championships

LA CROSSE, Wis.—Bethel University's track and field program is sending 11 student-athletes to the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships, which are set to take place at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse this weekend. The Royals will be well represented in the 400-meter races as two men and one woman will compete individually in the 400-meter dash and both 4x400-meter relay teams will also compete.

Junior Carl Klamm comes into the meet with the third best time in the 400-meter race. An All-American finisher at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Klamm returns in 2018 after running a personal and program best time of 47.24 at the MIAC Championships two weeks ago. On his heels is teammate Karl Olsen, who ran a time of 47.47 at Augustana's Meet of Champions on April 20. That time ranks No. 6 nationwide.

Sophomore Delia Labatt returns for her second outdoor national meet in as many seasons. The 2018 indoor All-American posted a time of 55.98 at Hamline's Meet of the UnSaintly on May 4, which ranks No. 12 among all females competing this weekend.

In addition to the three individuals, both 4x400-meter relay teams are equally good. The women's quartet of Labatt, Hannah Sankey, Erin Alpers, and AddieKay Johnson ranks No. 8 nationwide with a time of 3:49.99 at the Drake Relays on April 25. This group earned All-American status after finishing No. 4 at the 2018 indoor championships. The men's foursome of Klamm, Olsen, Isaac Erickson, and Evan Hatton ranks No. 2 nationally with a time of 3:12.18 at the Drake Relays.

The prelims for the 4x400-meter relay are scheduled for Thursday, May 24 at 5:30 p.m., while the prelims for the open 400-meter race are scheduled for Friday, May 25 at 4 p.m. The finals for the 400 are slated for Saturday, May 26 at 1:10 p.m., while the 4x400-meter relay finals will closeout the event on Saturday, May 26 at 3:50 p.m. Results throughout the weekend can be seen here.
