Royals Men Roll Over Northwestern, 9-0

MINNEAPOLIS – The Bethel University men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over the University of Northwestern Saturday morning at the University of Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center. The Royals dominated at each spot in the lineup, not losing a single set to the Eagles. The Eagles were tied with the College of St. Scholastica, who Bethel defeated 5-4 last Saturday, at the top of the preseason Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) poll.

Bethel's top two doubles teams of Luke Palmquist/Kirby Ronning and Matt Schull/Kolin Kiekhofer both won 8-2 while the third doubles team of Steve Schull/Brett Lizotte won 8-1.
In singles play Matt Schull at No. 1 singles won 6-4, 6-0. Ronning won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles while freshman Kiekhoefer won 6-1, 6-1. Steve Schull returned to the Royals lineup after missing last weekends match and won at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-0. Kent Schaller was extremely impressive at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Senior Jared Wall rounded off the Royals victory with his first varsity lineup singles victory of his career, winning 6-2, 6-2.

Bethel will host Simpson College Sunday morning at 8 a.m. back at the Baseline Tennis Center on the U of M's campus.
