Bethel Wins 10th Consecutive Home Game in 74-51 Victory

Box Score

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Bethel University's women's basketball team recorded its tenth consecutive win the Robertson Center Gym—dating back to the final home game of the 2012-13 season—with a dominant 74-51 victory over Carleton College Monday evening. The Royals (14-5, 12-4 MIAC) played two exceptional halves of basketball, outscoring the Knights (5-14, 3-13) 37-25 in the first half and 37-26 in the second half.

BU led 17-16 after the contest's opening seven minutes of the game, however, a 20-3 outburst over the ensuing 10 minutes opened up a sizeable margin for the Royals. Bethel recorded six steals and forced eight Carleton turnovers in the frame, while also shooting 50 percent from the floor.

The Royals added to their lead early in the second half, when a 24-10 surge in the first 12 minutes of the period propelled Bethel to its eventual 23-point triumph.

Following the end of the competition, BU cooled down to 43 percent shooting, but outrebounded the Knights by an astonishing margin of 51-19. The Royals grabbed 24 offensive boards, opposed to Carleton's four. Bethel forced the Knights to shoot 2-of-18 from outside the arc and 37.8 from the floor.

Contrary to Carleton, BU shot 40 percent (6-of-15) from long range and converted 43.3 percent of their shots from the floor. Because of their incessant rebounding, Bethel was able to score 42 points in the paint—the most by far this season. Their rebounding advantage also led to 18 second-chance points.

Rachel Parupsky had an incredible night, finishing the game with 22 points, 14 rebounds, and two blocks. Parupsky, who recorded her 15th double-digit game and sixth double-double of the season, was 10-of-13 from the field and 2-of-3 from the charity stripe. Lexi Friesen also contributed greatly, adding 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting and four rebounds. Friesen, Katelyn Vavra, and Hannah Niewald each conjured two steals. Vavra was 3-of-6 from the floor with nine points and three assists.

Bethel puts its 10-game win streak at home on the line Wednesday night against St. Thomas. The Tommies handed the Royals their first conference loss of the season on January 13, but BU is looking for revenge with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.
