Royals Remain Undefeated with 64-50 Win over Gusties

Box Score

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Bethel University's women's basketball team extended it's winning streak against league opponents, as the Royals (8-1, 6-0 MIAC) improved to 6-0 against MIAC foes following Wednesday night's 64-50 route over Gustavus Adolphus.

BU outscored the Gusties (5-5, 2-6 MIAC) by seven points in both halves, including a 35-28 advantage in the second period. The Royals cashed in on 16-of-20 (80 percent) shots from the charity stripe and forced 17 turnovers.  Bethel's 11 steals helped the Royals collect 13 points off turnovers and their 48-36 rebounding advantage rewarded them with a 14-8 margin in second chance points. BU also tallied 16 assists on the night—the most in a single game this season.

"It was a great team win," said head coach Jon Herbrechtsmeyer. "Not too many nights do you see that type of execution throughout the entire 40 minutes of play at both ends of the court, and tonight we excelled the entire game."

Kalli Zimmermann had an exceptional night for Bethel, finishing the conference affair with 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals. MIAC Player of the Week, Rachel Parupsky, contributed an exceptional performance as well—scoring 17 points, grabbing seven boards, and swatting five shots.

Lexi Friesen poured in eight points off the bench on 3-of-6 shooting, while Shanni Moorse donated five points, four rebounds, two blocks, and a steal in 15 minutes of play.

"One of the most exciting components in tonight's contest was that everyone contributed." Herbrechtsmeyer continued, "Everyone that played scored and as a whole, our team made it easy to have balanced minutes all night long."

Bethel shot 34.4 percent from the floor, but manufactured 42.9 percent from downtown. Katelyn Vavra drained 2-of-4 shots from beyond the 3-point arc.

The Royals, still undefeated in MIAC play this season, will be tested by Hamline University at home this Saturday at 1 p.m. The incoming Pipers come into Saturday's matinee with a 1-6 record against league opponents.
