Balanced Offense Pushes Bethel Past Macalester at Home

Box Score

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Four players scored in double figures and two more added nine points, while the Bethel University women's basketball squad upended Macalester College at home Saturday 83-45. The Royals (12-4, 10-3 MIAC) shot 46.8 percent (29-63) from the floor and 50 percent (5-of-10) from beyond the 3-point arc, while holding the Scots (3-13, 2-11 MIAC) to 27 percent shooting overall.

Coming into Saturday's matinee, the Royals were shooting 19 percent from downtown in the last five games. A much-improved shooting performance from long range helped Bethel develop an early lead. BU held Macalester scoreless in the first eight minutes, while racing out to a 14-0 lead. The Royals went on to a 46-19 advantage at the mid way mark. Bethel continued the trend in the second half—outscoring the Scots 37-26.

BU outrebounded Macalester 48-31 throughout the MIAC showcase. As a result, Bethel outscored the Scots 19-2 in second chance points. The Royals also collected 42 points in the paint, opposed to Macalester, who tallied just 12.

Kalli Zimmermann led Bethel with 14 points, but was one of six players to score nine or more points. Zimmermann collected five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Rachel Parupsky, Lexi Friesen, and Sydney Schultz each scored 11 points, while Hannah Niewald and Shanni Moorse added nine.

Schultz finished the day 4-of-5 from the floor, including a 3-4 mark from outside the arc. Parupsky added seven rebounds and two blocks to her stat line, while Niewald hauled down five boards and dished out three assists.

The Royals continued their dominance at the free throw line, draining 20-of-25 from the charity stripe. This improved their season average to 72.2 percent.

Bethel is off until Wednesday, when they take the road test in Moorhead, Minn., against Concordia College. The women will kickoff a men's and women's double header that night, with tipoff scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
