Bethel Victorious In Both Matches on Day Two of NWC Opener

ROSEVILLE, Minn. - The Bethel women found their groove during the second day of the NWC Opener. The Royals walked away from day two having defeated both UW-River Falls and UW-Oshkosh.

Against the Falcons of River Falls the Royals needed only three sets to earn the win. Those three sets did not come easily though as the Royals largerst margin was only eight points, while winning the first and thrid sets by a combined margin of five points.

The match against Oshkosh was also a tight battle as the Royals and Titans went four sets, with Bethel winning three to one.

Against River Falls Amy Werner (Jr., Three Lakes, Wis.) racked up 11 kills, while senior Nicole Wriedt (Pewaukee, Wis.) was right behind Werner with 10. Also contributing to the Bethel win was Kate Smith (Sr., Arden Hills, Minn.) who had 30 assists, and Valerie Smith (Jr., Alexandria, Minn.) who had 22 digs.

In the later game against Oshkosh, Catie Helle (Jr., Onamia, Minn.) contributed in a big way accumilating 14 kills. Wriedt was also a big part of the attack with 13 kills. Kate Smith added 34 assists, while she and Valerie Smith combined with Mallory Rundquist (So., Kasson, Minn.), Haley Toter (Sr., Park Ridge, Ill.), and Rachel Bloom (So., Plymouth, Minn.)combined for 86 of the teams 108 digs.

The Royals will be in action again on Tuesday as they travel to Eau Claire to participate in the UW-Eau Claire Tournament.
