ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Hungry for points in the MIAC standings, the Bethel Royals played the Saint Benedict Blazers with a high level of intensity today, but ultimately came up on the short end of a 1-0 overtime decision. A goal in the 94th minute of play - the only goal scored today - prevented Bethel from earning its first point or points from Saint Benedict since the two teams played to a 0-0 draw in 1994 when the women's soccer team was in its second year of play as a varsity sport.

Alyssa Riggs (Sr., Columbia Heights, Minn.) played about as well as anyone could have asked her to play in front of the net, making seven saves in the effort. As a team, the Blazers made 22 shots compared to 15 for Bethel, but the Royals put a higher percentage of their shots on goal forcing Saint Benedict goalie Megan Favorite to make seven saves as well.

Carolyn Kishaba (Sr., Eau Claire, Wis.) put two shots on goal, while Sophie Christiansen (Sr., Portland, Ore.), who had scored three goals in her last two games, shot six times during the contest, once on goal.

Colleen Bouchard scored the game winning goal for the Blazers.

"I was happy with our effort and the way we battled; however, we are having a tough time scoring goals," said Head Coach Jeremy Iwaszkowiec. "Today, we hit the post twice and their goalkeeper made one fantastic save. It might sound simple, but we have to be mentally tougher and put away our chances."

The loss drops Bethel to 7-4-1 (2-3 MIAC), while Saint Benedict improves to 7-4-1 (5-1-1). The next chance for the Royals to earn some points in the standings comes this Saturday when they travel northwest to take on the Concordia Cobbers in Moorhead, Minn., for a 3 p.m. contest.
