February 17, 2010

Scotti Moats led all scorers with 23 points tonight.

Box Score

MINNEAPOLIS - The Royals earned their 10th win of the season tonight at Augsburg; never giving up their lead throughout the game despite a hard push by the Auggies in the second half.

Taylor Sheley (So., Backus, Minn.) helped the Royals jump out to an early lead in the first half, scoring 13 of her 19 points on the night to help provide Bethel with a 10 point halftime advantage. However, midway through the second half, the Auggies fought back, cutting the deficit to a single point on a shot by Brittany Dyshaw.

After Kristi Nye (So., Nashville, Tenn.) gave Bethel some breathing room on the other end of the court with a bucket, the Royals kicked it into high gear, and never looked back, leading by as much as 15 points before time ran out.

Scotti Moats (Fr., Waconia, Minn.) dominated the paint on offense tonight, scoring 23 points, while pulling in five offensive rebounds. She was able to attract the attention of the Auggie defense and drew several fouls in this very physical game, causing two Auggie players to foul out and creating foul trouble for two others as well. She scored 11 of her points off of 15 free throws.  Shana Grejtak (Jr., Franklin, Minn.) also turned in a solid performance tonight, grabbing 10 rebounds and scoring eight points.

Augsburg was led in scoring by Serenae Levine, with 17 points, and Brittany Dyshaw, with 16 points.

The Royals are now 9-12 in the conference and 10-14 overall. They will return to the Robertson Center to play their final regular season game against Carleton College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 20.
