ST. PAUL, Minn. - A pair of wins over two of the top teams in the conference last week put Bethel on a hot streak as the Royals were winners of three in a row and four of their last five. Until they faced St. Catherine tonight. The Wildcats took advantage of less than stellar shooting by the Royals and defended their territory by defeating Bethel 69-49.
Bethel led just twice during the game, and both times were within the first six minutes of play. After that, St. Catherine neutralized what had been a potent offensive and defensive attack for the Royals.
Rachel Gilbert (Fr., Becker, Minn.) came off the bench and was the only Bethel player to reach double digit points with 10. Reigning MIAC Co-Athlete of the Week
Scotti Moats (Fr., Waconia, Minn.) earned nine points and eight rebounds to help the cause, but the Wildcats kept top scorers
Taylor Sheley (So., Backus, Minn.) and
Kristi Nye (So., Nashville, Tenn.) in check by limiting them to just six points each.
Laura Kalbfell led the way for St. Catherine by scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
The loss drops Bethel back into a tie with St. Catherine at 7-9 in the MIAC and also 8-11 overall. The Royals return home to the friendly confines of the Robertson Center on Wednesday night to take on Hamline University, with whom they are also tied in the conference standings, for a 7:30 p.m. game.
