ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Those who were amazed by Bethel's 9-0 win over Crown College at the beginning of the week had to wonder what they would do for an encore performance. The answer? Another wonderful offensive show. Seven different players scored as Bethel dominated UW-Superior by the same score, 9-0. From whistle to whistle, the Royals controlled possession and maintained a constant attack for the full 90 minutes.
"We finished well today," said Assistant Coach Rachael Chavez, "The things we worked on in practice - carrying the ball to the end line and finishing off crosses - we used in the game."
Carolyn Kishaba (So., Eau Claire, Wis.) was the catalyst for the Bethel attack, connecting on two goals and adding two assists for six points. Fellow newcomer
Lydia Bergeson (Fr., Mauston, Wis.) also tallied two goals for the Royals, who have opened up the season with back to back nine goal performances. The Royals kept the Yellowjackets' goalie busy with 39 shots on goal.
Brittany Griffore (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) followed up her hat trick on Tuesday against Crown with another goal and two assists, while
Leah Hardie (So., Ankeny, Iowa) and
Breanna Posey (Sr., Champlin, Minn.) each had a goal and an assist on the afternoon.
"We attacked well today from different angles," said
Sophie Christiansen (So., Portland, Ore.) "but we need to maintain a 0-0 attitude all the time, no matter the opponent."
While the women enjoyed another lopsided victory, the team realizes that there is still work left to be done.
"These games are good for our confidence," said
Krista Polding (Jr., Waconia, Minn.), who had two assists, "but we know that we need to keep improving and we're going to have to pick up our game speed for conference play."
Starting their season 2-0, the women will look to continue their winning ways as they host the Eagles of Northwestern College on Monday, September 7, starting at 2 p.m. at the Ona Orth Complex. Meanwhile, UW-Superior drops to 0-2 in their season.
