ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Bethel took on Division II opponent St. Cloud State today in what turned out to be a challenging match for the home team and good preparation for the upcoming MIAC playoffs. Though the Royals have been cruising along in the wins category as of late, the Huskies caliber of play proved to be too much, and they fell 8-1.
David Torres (Sr., Arden Hills, Minn.) and
Jordan McIver (Jr., Alexandria, Minn.) were the closest doubles duo to reaching a win. They finished with an admirable score of 8-6 after rallying well with their opponents.
Singles saw the defeat of Royals not used to losing - including number one and number two players,
Tom Ronning (Jr., Alexandria, Minn.) and Torres. But it was
Joel Cassens (Jr., Owatonna, Minn.) who succeeded in taking the win from his opponent 7-6, 6-4. While there were two Royals who pushed their singles matches into tiebreakers -
Kent Nichols (Fr., Milaca, Minn.) and
Jordan LeFebvre (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) - there were no more victories for Bethel today.
The non-conference loss doesn't harm their MIAC standings, and they stay at 6-2, but are dropped to 9-5 overall. They are looking forward to their next regular season match on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at the Ona Orth Complex against Hamline.
