KENOSHA, Wis. – The Bethel University women's soccer team wrapped up its tournament weekend with a gritty performance in a 2-1 loss to Carthage on Sunday afternoon. Despite conceding two early goals, the Royals stayed composed and battled back, scoring late to make it a tight finish.
Carthage struck first in the 6th minute off a corner kick and added another in the 50th minute. The Royals, however, showed resilience throughout, generating consistent pressure and a number of quality scoring chances.
Goalkeeper Autumn Maki had a standout performance, collecting six saves, including multiple second-half stops that kept Bethel within reach.
On the offensive end, Mia Backous, Natalie Daniels, and Hailey Bergan each forced saves from the Carthage keeper. The breakthrough came in the 85th minute when Malia Beilby found the back of the net to cut the lead in half. Bethel pushed forward in the final minutes but couldn't find the equalizer.
The Royals hit the road again for their next matchup, traveling to face Macalester on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
