St. Paul, Minn. – The Bethel University women's soccer team came up short on the road Thursday night, falling 5-0 to a sharp Macalester College side in non-conference action at John Leaney Field. The loss drops the Royals to 0-4-1 on the season, while Macalester improves to 3-1 with its third shutout of the year.

Macalester struck early, scoring in the 4th minute on a redirected free kick and continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, building a 3-0 lead by halftime. Despite organized stretches of play and a resilient defensive effort from Bethel, the Scots added two more goals in the second half to close out the match.

The Royals managed five total shots, two on goal, and received six saves from junior goalkeeper Abby Wright. Bethel also saw valuable minutes from a variety of players as they continue to develop team chemistry early in the season.

Bethel returns to the field on Sunday, Sept. 14, with a 5:00 p.m. matchup at UW-Stout in Menomonie, Wis.
