Royals 3rd at MIAC Championships, Win 6 Events

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bethel Royals placed 3rd as a team in the MIAC Outdoor Championships as they racked up 131.5 team points. Gustavus won the meet with 170.5 points, Concordia Moorhead was 2nd with 140 points, and St. Olaf was 4th with 118 points.

The Royals were led by Kelsie Sealock's victories in both the 100H and 400H. Sealock won her 3rd MIAC title in the 100H, running 14.35 seconds. Hannah Bingham took 5th in 15.51 and Hailey Scholten was 7th in a personal best time of 15.90.

Sealock came back to run a program record time of 60.80 in the 400H for her 2nd win of the day. Her 400H time ranks her 4th in Division III. Bingham took 4th in the race with a personal best time of 63.95.

Anna Speratos earned her first conference title by winning the hammer throw. Speratos tossed a program record 53.45m / 175'4", while 5 of her 6 throws would have won her the competition. Speratos is now ranked 17th in Division III.

Bethel also earned two MIAC titles in the relays on Saturday. The 4x100m relay team of Jireh Babalola, Raina Kaping, Autumn Maki, and Abbie Swenson held off the field to win in 47.40 seconds. That time ranks them 34th in Division III. 

The 4x400m relay team of Madi Pelowski, Abbie Swenson, Hailey Gregg, and Shalom Sulungaine ran a MIAC Championship meet record of 3:49.64 to beat out Concordia Moorhead in 3:51.02. 

The Royals racked up 15 team points in a historically fast 400m dash. Shalom Sulungaine placed 3rd with a program record time of 54.95 seconds. That time ranks her 5th in Division III and is faster than the previous meet record. Hailey Gregg took 5th with 58.13, Madi Pelowski was 6th in 58.19, and Abbie Swenson was 7th in 58.61.

Jireh Babalola earned 2nd place in the 100m dash as she ran 11.92 seconds, just 0.04 behind the winner Zari Young from St. Mary's, and 0.04 ahead of 3rd place Kate Carlson from Gustavus. Raina Kaping was 8th in a personal best 12.50.

Babalola also took 5th in the 200m with a time of 25.42 seconds.

Ellie Hernes earned a spot on the podium, as she placed 3rd in the triple jump with a leap of 11.21m / 36'9.5". Jordan Stanislowski took 7th with a jump of 10.72m / 35'2". 

The Royals will continue on to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio on May 22-24. The top 22 individuals and top 16 relays will qualify for the championships.
