RESULTS
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bethel Royals are in 3rd place after day 1 of the MIAC Championships with 49 team points. St. John's leads with 84.5 points, and St. Olaf is in 2nd with 55 points.
The Royals were led by the throwers, highlighted by freshman Timmy Ball's and sophomore Phil Conant's 1-2 finish in the discus. Ball threw a lifetime best 51.25m / 168'1", which stands as the 12th best throw in Division III this year. Conant also threw a lifetime best of 48.18m / 158'1", the 44th best mark in Division III. Senior Evan Larsen added to the point total with a 5th place finish as he threw 46.13m / 151'4".
Bethel's throws crew also scored 4 athletes in the hammer throw. AJ Hokanson led the way with a 2nd place finish, throwing 53.78m / 176'5". Larsen earned a podium spot, securing 3rd place with a throw of 50.75m / 166'6". Ball was 7th with 48.85m / 160'3", and Conant was 8th with 48.45m / 158'11".
Grant Graber earned 3rd place in the 10k, with a personal best time of 31:35.53. Graber patiently picked people off in the second half, as he went out in 16:10 in the first 5k, and closed in 15:25 - which included a 4:45 final mile. Graber earned Bethel's first podium finish in the 10k since Matt Berens in 2013.
The 4x800m relay team of Eli Berg, Michael Schultz, Gabe Kuecker, and Clark Nelson earned 4 points as they finished in 5th place with a time of 7:52.64.
The Royals also qualified athletes to Saturday's finals:

- 200m - Grant Nelson, Jacob Parent, Cameron McConnell, Sam Raitz
- 400m - Grant Nelson, Jacob Parent, Caleb Ketterling, Sam Raitz

- 110H - Jayson Ekiyor, David Myres, Josh Thomsen, Blake Viesselman, Josh Lee
- 400H - David Myres, Jayson Ekiyor, Josh Thomsen
Day 2 will begin at Macalester at noon on Saturday, with the men's javelin and triple jump, while running events will start at 1:30PM with the 4x100m relay.
