Men Lead MIAC Championships After Day 2

RESULTS

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The Bethel Royals lead the team standings after day 2 of the MIAC Indoor Championships. The Royals have 102 points, St. Olaf is in 2nd with 69 points, and St. John's is 3rd with 67.5 points. 

Bethel put up gaudy numbers in the 60H, scoring 32 team points, highlighted by Jayson Ekiyor's victory in a championship record 7.97 seconds. (Ekiyor ran 7.94 seconds in the preliminary round.) The Royals swept the top 4 spots with Josh Thomsen taking 2nd in 8.14, David Myres taking 3rd in 8.19, and Pryce Ferrin taking 4th in 8.31. Blake Viesselman took 7th in 8.54 and Josh Lee was 8th in 8.76. 

In the 400m dash, Grant Nelson set a championship record, winning in 48.29 seconds, just ahead of teammate Jacob Parent who placed 2nd in 48.67 seconds. Sam Raitz took 5th in 50.54 and Caleb Ketterling was 7th in 50.80, giving Bethel a whopping 24 team points in the event.

Landen Liu was the 3rd Royal athlete to set a championship record on Friday evening. Liu won the 60m dash in 6.74 seconds, bettering his own record by 0.02 seconds. Cameron McConnell took 4th place in a personal best time of 6.90, and Godsword Simon was 7th in 7.05, as the Royals earned 17 team points in the event.

The Bethel throwers contributed 14 team points in the weight throw. AJ Hokanson took 2nd place with his thow of 17.47m / 57'3.75". Evan Larsen was 4th throwing 16.23m / 53'3" and Phil Conant was 8th with 15.48m / 50'9.5".

Victor Lelinga placed 4th in the 800m, running 1:56.86 and adding 5 team points.

Nick Bovitz jumped a collegiate best 6.73m / 22'1" to place 5th in the long jump, which gave Bethel 4 team points.

At the end of the day, the distance medley relay team of Hootie Hage, Caleb Ketterling, Gabe Kuecker, and Grant Graber earned a podium finish, placing 3rd with their time of 10:21.71, giving Bethel 6 team points.

The Championships conclude Saturday, March 1st at St. John's. Field events begin at noon, while running gets underway at 1:00 PM. You can find the schedule, live results, live stream and more at the MIAC Championship Website.
