LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Bethel Royals earned several national level marks on Saturday at the Mark Guthrie Legacy Invite at UW-Lacrosse.
Jayson Ekyior opened his 2025 season with a win in the 60H. Ekyior - the national runner-up in this event in 2023 - ran the 4th best time in Division III this season, 7.93 seconds.Â
The 4x400m relay team continued their rivalry with UW-Lacrosse as the Eagles and Royals ran the top-2 times in Division III this year. The Royals's team of Grant Nelson, Sam Raitz, Victor Lelinga, and Jacob Parent earned 2nd place with their time of 3:16.26.
Parent won the 200m dash an hour earlier in 21.79 seconds. His time ranks him 7th in Division III.Â
Nelson also pulled double duty, placing 5th in the 400m dash with his time of 48.87. Nelson is now ranked 13th in Division III. The Royals now own the top 2 spots in the MIAC in the 60m, 200m, 400m, 600m, and 60H, and own the top spot in the 4x400m relay.Â
AJ Hokanson had a monster day in the throws, as he had a lifetime best of 17.98m / 59'0" in the weight throw to take 2nd place overall. That throw makes him the MIAC leader, and ranks him 17th in Division III this season. Hokanson also threw an indoor best 15.33m / 50'3.5" in the shot put to place 6th.
Evan Larsen placed 3rd in the weight throw with a personal best toss of 17.26m / 56'7.5". That mark ranks him 35th in Division III. Larsen was also 8th in shot put with a throw of 14.80m / 48'6.75".
Along with Ekyior's win in the hurdles, Josh Thomsen placed 6th in 8.31, just ahead of David Myres who was 7th in 8.34.
The Royals will compete next week on Valentine's Day, Friday, February 14th at the UW-Stout Quad.
