PREVIEW: No. 4 Seed Royals To Invade No. 1 Seed St. Olaf In 2025 MIAC Volleyball Playoff Semifinal

ARDEN HILLS, MINN.—The No. 4 seed Bethel University Royals will travel to No. 1 seed St. Olaf University in one of the MIAC Women's Volleyball Playoff Semifinal matches in Northfield, Minnesota on Thursday, November 13 at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the 2025 MIAC Playoff Championship at either No. 3 seed Saint Benedict or No. 2 seed Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, November 15 at 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Bethel fell to St. Olaf 3-1 (25-20, 15-25, 25-23, 25-21) at the Robertson Center on September 26. Despite the loss, the Royals had the upper hand in points 71-68 and aces 10-5. Both teams combined to hit .261 in the match, with BU achieving a .248 mark. The Royals accumulated 59 kills, while the Oles prevailed with 60. Hannah Penke played the match of her life with a season-high 22 kills, a .315 hitting percentage, and 13 digs. Sophia Rubio had 49 assists and 14 digs, while Grace Therrien had a team-leading 16 digs.

SERIES
Bethel leads 21-20 over the last 30 seasons. This marks the second-straight season the Royals and Oles will square off in the MIAC Volleyball Playoffs. Bethel defeated St. Olaf 3-1 in the 2024 MIAC Volleyball Playoff Quarterfinal at the Robertson Center. 

PAY-PER-VIEW
The 2025 MIAC Women's Volleyball Playoffs will be streamed live in a pay-per-view format for $10 each viewing. A $25 Championship Pass will allow fans to stream the entire tournament.  

TICKETS
All tickets will be sold and purchased online via HomeTown Ticketing. There will be no cash sales. Adult general admission is $12, while student general admission is $3. Children five and under receive free admission.

  • The Royals are making their 18th overall, and 11th-straight appearance in the MIAC Volleyball Playoffs. This marks the 11th time Bethel has advanced to the MIAC Volleyball Playoff Semifinal.
  • Bethel holds a 14-18 record in the MIAC Playoffs.
  • Their .210 hitting percentage leads the MIAC.
  • Freshman Sophia Rubio leads the MIAC and ranks 12th in NCAA Division III with 10.28 assists per set.
  • Peyton Howie paces the MIAC with 3.67 kills per set, and 4.39 points per set. She also has a team-leading 68 blocks.
  • Sophomore Grace Therrien leads the team with 366 digs (4.16 per set).
ABOUT NO. 1 ST. OLAF (25-7) Head Coach: Alicia Wood, Second Season
  • The Oles are making their 16th overall, and 11th-straight appearance in the MIAC Volleyball Playoffs. This marks the 12th time St. Olaf has reached the MIAC Volleyball Playoff Semifinal.
  • St. Olaf holds a 17-13 record in the MIAC Playoffs.
  • Their 1,444 team assists, and 1,551 team kills leads all of NCAA Division III.
  • St. Olaf also paces the MIAC with 12.13 assists per set, 1,997 team digs, and 4,445 total attacks.
  • Morgan Ryan, the 2025 MIAC Defensive Player of the Year, leads the country with 709 total digs and ranks eighth with 5.96 digs per set.
  • Paige Christopherson paces the MIAC with 59 service aces, while Maren Miller has a conference-leading .377 hitting percentage.
  • Mehsa Krause leads the team with 328 kills (2.76 per set).
