The Bethel University men's soccer team picked up a statement 3–1 victory over Hamline University on Saturday afternoon in Arden Hills, improving to 8–4–3 overall and 4–3–1 in MIAC play.
The Royals came out firing and set the tone early. Nathan Hunt opened the scoring in the 16th minute with his third goal of the season, capitalizing on Bethel's aggressive press. Just three minutes later, Ryan Swanda doubled the lead, finishing off a perfect feed from Jordan Ross to make it 2–0 before the 20-minute mark.
Hamline clawed one back before halftime, but Bethel's defense stood firm the rest of the way—anchored by sharp goalkeeping and steady play through the back line.
In the 85th minute, James Oberholtzer sealed the win, slotting home a beautiful setup from Carter Sheard to give Bethel breathing room and the 3–1 final.
The Royals outshot the Pipers 12–9 and earned a 6–3 advantage in corner kicks, maintaining control through all phases of play.
With the win, Bethel strengthens its MIAC playoff hopes as the regular season winds down.
The Royals are back in action next Saturday at home against Carleton College, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. at Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
