The Bethel University men's soccer team battled to a hard-fought 2–2 draw on the road Wednesday night against No. 8-ranked Augsburg, showing resilience and late-game poise under the lights at Edor Nelson Field.
After falling behind 1–0 in the 28th minute and 2–0 just five minutes into the second half, the Royals mounted an impressive comeback to earn a point against one of the nation's top teams. Jordan Ross sparked the rally in the 56th minute with his team-leading 10th goal of the season, finishing a setup from Owen Burshem to cut the deficit in half.
As time ticked down, Bethel continued to press forward, and the persistence paid off in the 90th minute, when Ryan Swanda found the equalizer to level the match at 2–2 and send the Royals' bench into celebration.
Bethel's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Griffin Blokker stood tall down the stretch as he recorded five saves on seven shots on goal to help preserve the tie. The Royals were efficient offensively, tallying 12 total shots (6 on goal) while generating six corner kicks to keep pressure on the Auggies' back line.
With the result, Bethel moves to 7–4–3 overall and 3–3–1 in MIAC play, keeping pace in a tight conference race.
The Royals return home on Saturday at 1 p.m. to host Hamline at Ona Orth Athletic Complex in another important MIAC matchup.
