The Bethel men's soccer team defeated the University of Wisconsin – River Falls Falcons, 2-0. The victory brings the Royals to a season record of 5-4 as they head back into MIAC play.
How it happened:
- The first half saw tense play between the two teams, but the Royals found a slight edge in shots on goal, outshooting the Falcons 9-5.
- Their persistence on offense finally paid off in the 35th minute when a foul granted them a free kick in the attacking third. Nathan Hunt sent a low ball into the 18-yard-box, and Dylan Magistad knocked it in to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.
- The Falcons tried to make a comeback in the second half, but the Royals' defense and goalkeeper Griffin Blokker shut down every attempt. Then, with just 15 seconds left, James Oberholtzer scored a slick goal off of a breakaway to seal the final score at 2-0, Royals.
What's Next:
The Royals will return to MIAC play this Saturday, Sept. 28, as they travel to Northfield, Minn., to take on the Carleton College Knights. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
