Jessica Oliver's nine-point game led the Bethel women's soccer team to a commanding 6-0 victory over the Crown College Polars. That ties the program single-game point record. The win moves the team to a record of 3-0-1 as they look forward to another non-conference matchup tomorrow.
Oliver is just the third Royal to tally nine points in a match and is the first since Maggie Sipe's effort against Iowa Wesleyan on Sept. 3, 2017. Her three assists also tie a single-game record, being the seventh Royal to do so and first since Britney Monteon against Bethany Lutheran on Sept. 6, 2018.
How It Happened:
- The Royals' offense threatened the Polars' defense right off the bat, but their first conversion came in the 28th minute as Jessica Oliver won possession off of a thrown in deep in the Polars' end, maneuvered around multiple defenders, and cranked a shot from the left corner of the 18-yard box to set the Royals up, 1-0.
- Oliver lit the lamp again just a few minutes later, finding a foot on a loose ball during a scuffle in front of the net and sending it sailing over the Polars' goalkeeper's head at 34:06. 2-0, Royals.
- Megan Bohlig added to the Royals' dominant lead in the 41st minute as she one-timed the ball into the back of the Polar net from nearly 30 yards out. Oliver rounded out the half by completing her hat trick at 41:57 as she beat out three defenders and the Polar goalkeeper before delivering the ball neatly into the lower right corner of the net.
- The second half saw Malia Beilby light things up as she broke onto the scoreboard just three minutes into play. A dime of a cross from Oliver on the left side of the field landed just in front of her as she crashed the Polar net, and a well-timed strike buried the ball for a fifth Royal goal.
- Beilby added the Royals' sixth and final goal at 69:08 as she made a run towards the net and Oliver laid off a perfect pass before her. A simple pass into the net was all it took for Beilby to secure her second goal and seal the win for the Royals.
What's Next:
There's no rest for the Royals as they head home to Ona Orth Athletic Complex tomorrow, Sept. 14, for a matchup against the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m..
