20 Point Third Quarter Propels Royals to Conference Win Over Wildcats

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — The Bethel University women's basketball team earned its first conference win of the season Monday night. Behind a 13 point night from Colette Duinick and a 20 point third quarter the Royals took down St. Catherine 58-44, to improve to 3-1 on the year.
 
Lydia Hay gave the Royals their first lead of the game driving the lane and finishing for a layup to give Bethel a 4-2 lead. Later in the first an Alli Born steal turned into an Elly Schmitz layup to tie things up at nine. Macy Littlefield nailed one from Beyond-the-arc to take a 14-7 lead.
 
The Royals took a 23-21 lead into halftime, and Colette Duinick got things going out of the break draining a three pointer to give the Royals a 27-23 lead. The Royals continued to build their lead, when Collette Duinick turned a steal into a fast break layup and an eight point advantage.
 
Cally Peterson drove the lane, getting the bucket and drawing the foul. Promptly knocking down the free throw attempt and opening up a 35-25 Royals lead .
 
Anna Garfiled closed out the third quarter with a 15-foot jumper to give Bethel a commanding 43-27 lead through three quarters of play.
 
Colette Duininck drove the lane once more to make it a 54-36 game early in the fourth quarter. Cally Peterson came up with a layup of her own to give Bethel a 57-40 lead, with the Royals going on to win 58-44.
 
Up next: 
The Royals are back in action Tuesday Nov.25 against Crown College in the Robertson Center Gym. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
