The Bethel men's soccer team handily defeated the St. Mary's University, Cardinals, 3–1. The wind brings the Royals to a season record of 7-6-0 and 3-3 in the MIAC.
How it happened:
- The first half saw the Royals dominate possession in shots on goal as they outshot the Cardinals, 12-4, yet neither team could find the offensive edge in the first 45.
- Surprisingly, it was the Cardinals she would break on the scoreboard first in the second half, scoring at 56:53.
- But, the Royals didn't let the deficit last for long. A skilled pass from Nathan Hunt found the foot of Jordan Oberholtzer as he made a run towards the net. Oberholtzer beat out three defenders and buried the ball in the back of the net to equalize the game at 60:01.
- The Royals kept up the offensive energy, scoring again just nine minutes later after Carter Sheard and Eli Duke connected a string of passes that led to a goal by Kyle Roy.
- Bethel topped off the win by widening the gap with another goal at 85:21 as Oberholtzer scored his second goal off of a pass from Will Swanda.
What's next:
The Royals will return to Ona Orth Athletic Complex next Tuesday, Oct. 15, for a 4 p.m. match against Augsburg University.
