Three in Double Figures as Royals Defeat St. Olaf, 72-52

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's basketball team put three scorers in double figures Saturday afternoon as part of a 72-52 victory over St. Olaf.
 
The Royals shot 43.1 percent from the field while holding the Oles to a 38.3 clip. BU held a slight edge on the boards 36-33 while forcing St. Olaf into 26 turnovers.
 
Bethel saw good production from its bench who contributed 28 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
• It started as a defensive battle with St. Olaf scoring the game's first bucket with 7:49 left in the opening quarter. A couple of threes helped the Oles build an 11-4 advantage with under five minutes left.
• The Royals closed the first quarter on a 10-1 run holding a 14-12 lead heading into the second.
Cally Peterson knocked down a trey from the left wing, with 3:55 left until halftime, giving Bethel its largest lead of the half at 29-16.
• Being held scoreless over the final two minutes of the quarter, BU took a 33-25 lead into the break.
 
Second Half
• The Royals opened the second half on an 11-0 run through the first five minutes as the lead grew to 44-25.
Macey Littlefield gave BU its largest lead of the afternoon at 51-26 scoring a layup with 2:29 to go in the third.
• Behind a nine-point scoring quarter for Alli Born, the Royals led 53-36 after 30 minutes of play.
• In the fourth, Bethel's defense held the Oles to a 35.7 percent shooting mark while the royals shot 47.1 percent.
 
KEY PERFORMERS
Anna Garfield finished with a team-high 19 points while bringing in six boards and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe.
Alli Born dropped 17 points to go along with six rebounds and four steals.  
Emily Erickson finished with 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
 
UP NEXT
Improving to 8-7 on the year and 6-4 in MIAC play, Bethel will not be back in action until Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Hamline as part of a four-game road stretch. The Royals game originally scheduled for Monday, Jan. 15 at Carleton was canceled due to the Knights canceling their 2023-24 season.
