RESULTS
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Royals earned 6 event titles at Hamline's Meet of the UnSaintly on Friday, May 5th - the last tune up meet before hosting the MIAC Championships next weekend.
Bethel got their first victory of the day from Cameron McConnell, as he blazed his way to a new personal best in the 100m dash of 10.76. Godsword Simon also dipped under the 11-second barrier, taking 4th in 10.95.Â
The Royals swept the top 3 spots in the 400m dash. Jacob Parent ran a personal best 46.97 to win - the 5th best time in Division III this year. Freshman Grant Nelson ran a massive personal best to take 2nd place with his time of 48.23. Joel Smith was 3rd as he tied his personal best of 48.69. Tony Haack was 5th in 51.40.
Josh Sampson had a dominating performance in the 110m hurdles as he won by over a second in 14.44. That is a personal best time and the 13th fastest in Division III. Bethel's Pryce Ferrin was 2nd in 15.52 and Josh Lee was 3rd in 16.41, both of which are personal best times.
In the 400m hurdles, David Myres ran a season best time of 54.70 to edge out 2nd place by 0.24 seconds. His time is now the 47th fastest in Division III. Trokon Karngar ran the fastest 400m hurdles of his life, taking 3rd in 55.98. Caleb Meeker was 4th for Bethel in 59.44.
Bethel earned two event titles in the throwing events as well. Evan Larsen won the discus with his throw of 43.97m / 144'3". Adam Hokanson won the shot put with a toss of 12.90m / 42'4". Hokanson was 5th in the discus with a throw of 38.72m / 127'0". Larsen was 3rd in shot put with a throw of 12.32m / 40'5".
The Royals had several podium finishes in the jumping events. Simon Swenson leaped to a personal best 13.27m / 43'6.5" in the triple jump, good enough for 2nd place. Myres was 3rd with a personal best 12.70m / 41'8". Grant Nelson took 2nd place in the long jump as he jumped 6.50m / 21'4". Swenson was 4th in 6.41m / 21'0.5". Alec Braun cleared a season best 1.85m / 6'0.75" in the high jump, placing him 3rd overall.
Reese Thompson came away with another victory for Bethel on Wednesday evening at St. Thomas. Thompson won the steeplechase in a personal best time of 9:45.84 in a race he won by over 45 seconds. That is the 4th fastest time in program history.Â
Aidan St. George continued his breakout season with a historic performance in the 5,000m run at St. Thomas. St. George raced his way to a personal best 14:53.88 - the 2nd fastest 5k in program history. St. George has now dropped 59 seconds from his 5k personal best since the indoor season.Â
Next weekend, for the 1st time ever, the Royals will host the MIAC Outdoor Championships at Royal Stadium. The Championships begin Friday, May 12th at 2:00 PM and will continue on Saturday, May 13th beginning at noon.Â
