DAY 1 RESULTS
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel Royals are 6th place after day 1 of the MIAC Outdoor Championships, which are taking place at Royal Stadium. Bethel compiled 23 team points, set 2 program records, and qualified a large number of athletes for the finals on Saturday.
The short sprint duo of Landen Liu and Cameron McConnell set program records in the 100m, and 200m dashes, respectively. Liu ran 10.59 to win his heat and qualified for finals with the top time in the preliminary round. McConnell broke Karl Olsen's 200m record from 2018 with his time of 21.51, which qualified him for the finals on Saturday.
The top finisher for the Royals on day 1 was Alec Braun, as he placed 4th in the high jump. Braun cleared a lifetime best 1.91m / 6'3.25" on his 3rd and final attempt to secure 5 points for Bethel.
The Royals also scored 6 points in the long jump. Simon Swenson took 5th as he jumped a lifetime best 6.64m / 21'9.5". Grant Nelson took 7th with his jump of 6.59m / 21'7.5".
The 4x800m relay team of Gabe Kuecker, Luke Peterson, Tad Stewart, and Clark Nelson placed 5th as all 4 runners broke the 2-minute barrier on their official splits. That time is 25 seconds faster than last year's squad.
Aidan St. George went out hard in the 10k, and was rewarded with scoring his 1st point at a conference meet, placing 8th in 32:47.36.
